Objectives of Industrial Visits at SFIMAR:

  • To gain first hand in depth insight into the industrial processes
  • To undertake a plant tour & study end-to-end business processes

Purpose of Industrial visit:
To enhance the learning graph of management students through industry-academic interaction.

Industrial Visit for PGDM Batch

Industry Visit for PGDM Batch of 2019-21 was conducted from 17th to 19th October, 2019. The places visited were Pune and Mahabaleshwar.

Students visited to Parle Products, KNEST Aluminium Formwork Company, Mala’s fruit products along with sight visit to Table land & Parsi point, Panchgani Market, Mapro’s shopping outlet, Lingmala waterfall.

Industrial Visit OF MMS Batch To Pune And Mahabaleshwar

An industrial visit cum picnic was organized by SFIMAR for MMS - I students from 08 to 10 November 2019. Students from the first Semester, both A and B divisions along with Prof Sanchayita Bannerjee, Col Venkat Raman, Prof Jackson John and Ms Sheeba Nadar from the Staff went together to Pune and Mahabaleshwar for this activity.

Following an eventful road trip to Pune in two buses and one Traveller, and after a quick stop for a hearty breakfast at Mc’Donalds ahead of Khopoli, the students were split into three teams.

One team proceeded to Brinton carpets. The second team went to Vulcan Technologies and the third team went to Atul Overseas Ltd. All three are located at Pirangut in Pune. At Brinton carpets, the students were shown the entire processing of the plant including designing, Yarn manufacturing, Coloration, spinning, weaving and finishing of the final product. The students were explained in detail how the carpets are made. These carpets are exported to various countries including China.

The second batch went to Vulkan technologies which manufactures elastic couplings for ships, generators, compressors, and other industrial applications as well as solder free tube connections used in refrigeration and air conditioning technology.

The third batch went to Atul Overseas Limited, an Export Oriented Unit for making Industrial, Medical and Corporate Uniforms. They have an excellent team of experts who stitch these uniforms together with the latest technology in sewing machines. They have an impressive client list including Infosys Ltd.

At every site, the Site Manager not only showed them the various processes, but also answered the queries raised by the students.

After the industry visit on the first day, the teams proceeded to Panchgani where they reached their Hotel Millennium Park at around 9 P.M. After settling down in their rooms they had a sumptuous dinner and then went to their rooms to rest.

The next day we all proceeded to Mahabaleshwar to see the Points and the Lake for which the Hill station is famous. Students enjoyed the scenery and the cool climate. After a hearty lunch, we all went to the Table Top at Panchgani and enjoyed the View from the top of the plateau. This was followed by the DJ Nite with everyone dancing to the beats of some thumping music where the birthday of 3 students was also celebrated.

On the third day students visited Pure Gold Cheese Factory, where they were briefed about preparation and processing of cheese with an audio-visual presentation. After lunch we checked out of the Hotel and proceeded to the final Industry, namely Mapro for all the students at Wai near Pune. At Mapro, we were first shown three Films about how the Company was formed, followed by a site visit where we saw how their range of products, which started with only one, namely strawberry Jam and which now has product line including Jams, Fruit Crushes and Squashes, Jellies as well as their latest product line of Falero, Frubble and Mazaana, After seeing the plant, students had a free ice cream and then proceeded to buy the famous Mapro products at subsidized prices.

As the Industrial Visit came to an end, everyone then proceeded back to Mumbai with fun filled memories that they would surely cherish for a long time.

International Industrial Visit to Singapore

An International Industrial Visit to Singapore was organized for the students of MMS and MMM/MFM Programmes from 16th to 21st November 2019. 24 students accompanied by Dr Smita Jesudasan, Dr G Ramesh, Ms Bloswita Rodrigues participated in the international industrial visit to Singapore. The university visit to National University of Singapore (NUS) intensified their awareness towards innovative education offerings, lifelong learning and competitive strategies in the global workplace. The campus tour, interaction with the Faculty and Students of NUS were the highlights of the University visit. The industrial visit to Tiger Brewery enabled the students to explore the home of Singapore's most iconic beer, Tiger Beer. They discovered the fascinating history of Tiger Beer and found out how the local brand made its way overseas. They witnessed each step of the brewing process, that takes more than 500 hours for every batch. They got to see how the beers are packaged. The visit to SGX Academy (Singapore Exchange Academy) facilitated the students to attend a session on ‘The Basics of Investing’ in a global financial market i.e. Singapore. The session was conducted by Mr. Puah Soon Lim, CFA. The session covered the Ecosystem of Singapore Stock Market, Investment Goals, Investment Products, Model Portfolio and Portfolio Rebalancing Techniques based on Singapore financial products.

Learning was coupled with fun. There were sightseeing trips to Marina Bay Sands Skypark, Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island, Universal Studios, Singapore Flyer, Botanic Gardens, River Cruise, Henderson Waves, Jurong Bird Park and the City Tour. Singapore as a city is guided by visionary thinkers and innovators. It is a ‘City of the Future’ with the latest innovations and technology being created and implemented to blaze a path into the future. Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, Care and Harmony are the values that the management students shared from their personal experiences during the trip to Singapore and intend to imbibe and cherish in their personal and professional life.


MMS II Finance Specialization Field Visit to Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The students of MMS II finance specialization along with Prof Dr. Smita Jesudasan undertook a field visit to SEBI on 14th November, 2018. The students were very happy and looking forward to the visit to SEBI.

At SEBI, the representativeswarmly welcomed us with snacks and tea. We were briefed about the structure of the primary and secondary markets, functions, powers and duties of SEBI, rights and duties of investors. We were also made aware about the various investment alternatives available to investors.

There were also many concepts clarified in detail such as LODR- Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements, ASBA- Application Backed by Block Amount, CIS- Collective Investments Schemes, Escrow Accounts and different types of Demat accounts.

We were also made aware about theconcept of screen based trading and risks associated with trading. The resource person also explained about rolling settlement. We were also informed about the mandatory and voluntary documents required while opening a Demat account. He also made us aware about the grievance redressal process and how we as investors can file complaints on the website. The different informative links were shared by SEBI.

It was a very informative and enriching session as we got to learn many concepts, and also gained a lot of relevant and useful information which can be applied while making investments. The field visit provided us insights into the financial markets apart from the theoretical learning.
