The evening of October 6th, 2017 proved to be an evening worth remembering, as the event of dandiya night'17 and annual celebration of Gujarati event of dandiya, was organized in our Institute. The event was planned and organized by Dr.Natika Poddar which turned out to be a amazing night as a sizeable crowd turned up. The venue was set up to look like a typical Gujarati village. The décor gelled very well with the impeccably attired students in and the overall atmosphere of the night. The evening brought by an upbeat and electrifying bollywood number that charged up the entire crowd and made them get on their feet. The crowd grooved and moved along to a number of Gujarati and popular songs, and even after hours of dancing, there was no drop in energy levels or even the decibel level of the crowd. The Judges, Dr. Vinita and Miss. Archana judged the best dance, best pair and best costume.
The event proved effective, as in the end, everyone left with a big smile on their face.
Onam was celebrated at SFIMAR on the 4th of September, 2017 which was organized by a group of students from MMS-I and PGDM I. The participants included not only from Malayalam but also a large number of non- Malayalam background.
The event started with the SFIMAR anthem and lighting of the lamp followed by a brief presentation on the glimpses of Onam celebrations of 2014, 15 and 2016. Bro. Xavier Munda, Registrar, SFIMAR, gave a brief speech on the occasion.
The informal part started with the traditional Onam Song which started with melodiously but ended on Clap rendering and foot tapping mode. It was interlaced with a symbolic Onam boat rowing act performed by 7 designated students. This was followed by a social message on the significance of Onam celebrations delivered by Saiju indicting SFIMAR as One family and Oneness is Wellness and also quoted the concept of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam". This was followed by a short still act (skit). Both the Song and the still act were enthralling and got huge round of applause from the audience. Followed by the still act, There was also a traditional welcome of the "Mahabali- the demon king" by a group of 8 Thiruvaathirakali girls followed by the traditional dance namely "Kaikottikali",by the same group of eight girls which was indeed mesmerizing.
The participants, runner up and winner of the Pookalam competition held on 01 Sep 2017 were also distributed the prize by Brother Xavier Munda. The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by our student coordinator Deena. All the students, faculty members and staff, Registrar, Director were served with the delicious traditional sweet namely "Palada paayasam" and banana chips.
